Tyee
Wine Cellars is located on a 460-acre, 4th generation family farm near
the Coast Range south of Corvallis, the heart of Oregon's Willamette Valley.
Tyee is owned and operated by Dave and Margie Buchanan, Nola Mosier, and
Barney Watson, winemaker. Barney Watson, professor at Oregon State University,
is responsible for the training of some of Oregon's most talented new
winemakers, and is known for his consistent quality winemaking.
Tyee is known
for its Pinot noir, Pinot gris, and Chardonnay, while visitors to the
winery or to Avalon's store in Corvallis, OR may have experienced its
limited production Gewurztraminer. The Pinot noir is medium bodied, and
always well balanced and beautifully finished. It has complex blackberry
and tart cherry notes and a spiciness consistent with Eola type soils.
The Pinot
gris is always full bodied and flavorful, with hints of butter and an
explosion of fresh fruit in the mouth. A great complement to salmon on
the grill.
Don't miss
Tyee's Burgundian styled Chardonnay and their Pinot Blanc, when available.
The wines are both balanced, with good acid/tannin balance and may be
aged for several years.
This is the best guide, bar none, to Oregon's
