Field Blend of Vines Comes to Oregon Vineyards3-13-09
Oregon winemakers have been mixing it up in the vineyards lately-not with party hats and music, but with different clones of Pinot Noir. Clones of Pinot noir are slightly different variations of the grape, each with its own flavors and growing conditions. The tradition of planting grape clones in blocks, separating different clones from each other, is now joined by a new trend - "field blends"-planting different clones together in the same section. Jenise, on WineLovers Discussion Group, compared Gorman "Bully" 06, Mark Ryan Dead Horse 06, Betz la Serenne Syrah, Abeja Cab 06. Over 600 Washington Wineries, says Seattle PI3-2-09 Seattle PI today reported that Washington's wineries now number 600+. The 600th winery permit went to Bridge Press Cellars of Spokane, Washington. Governor Gregoire (below, at Taste Washington in Seattle) is encouraging the White House to pour more Washington wines.
