Sineann New Releases 9/5/03

Sineann winemaker Peter Rossback

Sineann
Zinfandel "Pines" 02 $27.00/$24.30

Smooth, bright fruit and long succulent flavors make this wine a perennial favorite.

Sineann
Old Vine Zinfandel 02
$35.99/32.40

Made from 100 year old vines, this wine is one of Peter's most popular, and is in relatively good supply this year.

A huge, massive, gushingly intense zinfandel. Proves that Washington State Zinfandel, given the correct vineyard, can be some of the best made anywhere.

Sineann Pinot noir "Oregon" 02 $29.99
2001 vintage received 91 points in Wine Spectator

A blend of grapes from Reid & Reynolds, Wadenswil, Phelps Creek, and Whistling Ridge vineyards. This is a dense wine, unusually complex, with flavors of plum, blackberry, cassis. coffee, chocolate, roses, and spice spinning rapidly around a core of dense dark oak. Drinking well now but cellar 2-7 years for changing, interesting flavors. A real honey!

Sineann Pinot noir Covey Ridge 02 $42.99
2001 vintage rated 91 points in Wine Spectator

100% Dijon 150 clone Pinot Noir, huge fresh ground coffee in the nose, silk and glycerin in the mouth, deep cassis flavors, a chewy quality that will calm with aging.

Sineann Pinot noir Phelps Creek 02 $42.00

New to us, we'll be posting tasting notes asap.

Sineann Pinot noir "Resonance" 02 $42.00
Previous vintage (01) received 93 points in Wine Spectator

Peter's best, 100% Pommard clone, deep plummy richness, the Pinot Noir clone that put Oregon on the map. From Kevin Chamber's vineyard, silk on the nose, hints of coffee and violets, tremendously appealing yet will benefit from cellaring 2-7 years. A real winner from the "Big Pinot" school of winemaking.

The Reed & Reynolds Vineyard has changed its name to "Resonance" Vineyard. Same great fruit.

Previous vintage (01) received 93 points in Wine Spectator: "Rich and distinctive for the floral-spicy complex character swirling around the supple core of blackberry, currant and plum flavors that last and last. Drink now through 2010. 252 cases made. (HS)"

Owen Roe New Releases 9/5/03

Owen Roe winemaker
David O'Reilly

Owen Roe
Sinister Hand 02

$19.99/18.00

We're so ready to try this new blend!

This Rhone inspired wine is a fresh blend of the exhuberant bright fruit of the grenache grape and the wild spice and big dark cherry fruit of Syrah. The wine has wild and gamey notes of bacon fat suggesting the wines of the Northern Rhone.

The label shows the severed hand of Owen Roe O'Neil- the Irish patriot whose severed hand appears on the coat of arms of winemaker David O'Reilly's family.

This wine is a blend of grapes from the Columbia River Valley. The Grenache grapes and 75% of the Syrah grapes are from the Elerding vineyard in Alderdale, Washington. The remaining grapes are from the Lewis Vineyard near the Dalles, Oregon.

David O'Reilly says that he is so happy to share this great value wine, an awesome value. He's tickled to be able to offer a great value- as he has found grapes at lower prices, he is passing the savings to us!

Owen Roe Pinot noir 02
$35.99/32.40

2001 rated 92 points by Wine Spectator

From the winemaker: "The 2002 Casa Blanca Vineyard and Arthur and Sheri Kalita's Vineyard comprise this dynamic Pinot noir. Without trying to sound like a broken record- it is very ripe, rich, and fragrant, with all the intensity that you woudl expect from one of our wines. This Pinot noir should also hold up to ten years with cool cellaring. Excellent with game, lamb, or rich pasta dishes."

Owen Roe Chardonnay 02
$29.99/27.00

Was called "Casablanca", still comes from that vineyard

This new Chardonnay is a blend of early ripening Dijon clones from Casa Blanca Vineyard and Fred Bur's tiny one acre block at his homw near the winery. The wine is so evocative of the hot 2002 vintage in Oregon - it has big rich tropical fruit aromas and flavors with buttery notes and long silky finish.

Owen Roe
Syrah Dubrul Vineyard/Rosa Mystical Block 02
$42.00/37.80

Huge, and very very limited

From the winemaker: "These two vineyards are located in a magical area in teh Rattlesnake Hills in Northern Yakima Valley. The combination of high elevation, intensive vineyard management, and a small crop yielded superbly balanced fruit. The wine is polished and rich all the while being burly with heady pepper aromas and plenty of structure. A huge Syrah that will reward with a few years of cool cellaring."

Owen Roe
Zinfandel "Hillside Vineyard" 02
$36.00/32.40

From the winemaker: "This Monster Zin (16.5% alcohol) is one of our favorite wines of the vintage. It is at once huge with incredible fruit flavors yet it has absolutely delightful fragrance and textures. Lonnie Wright provided us with maybe the best flavored grapes that we have ever tasted - the night taht we destemmed the fruit we couldn't keep our families from eating a portion of their weight with the incredible fruit."
