Le
Cadeau 2005 Pinot Noirs

Make Le Cadeau's Super Limited Estate Pinots
from Avalon Wine
One of the tiny production/highly
regarded "cult" Pinot vineyards in Oregon,
Le Cadeau's Pinot noirs are made by four top
flight winemakers: Chehalem's
Harry Petersen-Nedry makes "Rocheux"; Josh
Bergstrom makes "Cote Est",
and Cheryl Francis and Sam Tannahill make "Diversité".
Le Cadeau Vineyard is located
on the southern tip of Parrett Mountain, near
Newberg, OR .The
10-acre, high-elevation (610’ – 725’),
vineyard is the grape source for all three
wines, produced in quantities of around 100-200
cases each.
While not well known outside
Oregon's winemaking community , Le
Cadeau's Pinot noirs are avidly collected by
the small group of fans lucky enough to get
the wine. We're delighted to offer a small
amount of Le Cadeau's 2005 wines. All three
wines are well worth a place in your cellar.
Le Cadeau Pinot noir
Diversité 05
47.95
2004 Vintage of Diversité received 93 points from Wine Spectator.
Made by Cheryl Francis and
Sam Tannahill of Frances/Tannahill and A
to Z Wineworks, “Diversité” is
named for the diverse selection of Pinot Noir
clones that comprise this cuvee – Dijon
113, 115, 667, and 777, along with Mariafeld
and Pommard.
It’s
difficult to describe the lovely aromatics of
the ’05 Diversité. Along
with the usual Pinot Noir red fruits, thoughts
of lilac, honeysuckle, anise, and clove
come to mind. The flavors are both
delicate and rich all at the same time,
and include black cherry, dried red cherry,
as well as loganberries. The texture
is soft and velvety; the tannins are very
fine.
 Le Cadeau Pinot noir Rocheaux
05
$47.95
Made by Chehalem's Harry Pedersen-Nedry for Le
Cadeau, The Rocheux cuvee fruit comes from the
rocky west side of the vineyard. The
2005 Le Cadeau Rocheux opens with bold aromas
of mixed berries—boysenberry, marionberry,
raspberry—and light scents of coffee
and earth. On the palate, the wine
is balanced, focused, and features bright
acids and soft silky tannins. The flavors
include red and black cherries, Asian spices,
and the trademark earthiness from our vineyard
site. The ’05 Rocheux finishes
with a hint of vanilla and some lingering
oak which will fully integrate in the months
ahead.

Le Cadeau Pinot noir Cote Est
05
$47.95
"Cote Est" is
made by Josh Bergstrom for Le
Cadeau. Josh chose fruit from a part of the vineyard
that ripens slowly, seeking the lush, over-the-top
richness that his Pinots are known for. The Côte
Est cuvee fruit comes from the cooler, more
fertile, east side of the vineyard. The
nose offers scents of ripe black cherries
and a bit of raspberry. On the palate,
the ’05 Côte Est follows in
the mode of our 2004 release with flavors
of black cherry, blackberry, and a bit
of mocha and espresso. Bottled in
late August 2006, it continues to put on
weight, and is starting to drink well after
several hours of airtime.
