Spring Valley Uriah, Nina Lee, & Frederick Red Wines
Spring Valley TWICE in Wine Spectator's Top 100 List
from Avalon Wine

"Spring Valley has been making superelegant wines with remarkably focused flavors from a vineyard northeast of town (Walla Walla) that was once a rolling wheat field. Winemaker Devin Derby, who died in an automobile accident in 2004, demonstrated with Uriah what Merlot and Cabernet Franc could do in Washington. The wine has never rated less than 91 points."

"Cayuse, Quilceda Creek, Spring Valley and Owen Roe, which produced the best wines in this report, have all been among the state's highest scorers....."

- From Wine Spectator's Annual 2006 Washington Wine issue, by Harvey Steiman.

We've acquired a stash of the very hard to find Spring Valley Reds, and offer them to you, our valued customers. Marcus and Amy tasted the 2004 Uriah and Frederick yesterday and found them to be impeccably structured, intense, bold red wines. Both wines were among the finest they tasted out of dozens of high-end Washington reds.

Try the mixed case at the end of the email for a bit of all three, or stock the cellar with massive red wine goodness and get a case of each.

Spring Valley UriahSpring Valley Uriah 04 $44.96/$49.95

Wine Spectator 93 points:
" Lithe, refined and deftly balanced to show off its smoky blueberry compote and cherry flavors, which last on the long, expressive finish. The tannins are refined, but tightly packed. Needs time in the cellar to flower. Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot. Best from 2008 through 2012. 2,095 cases made". –HS

60% Merlot, 31% Cabernet Franc 4.5% Cabernet Sauvignon and 3.5% Petit Verdot

A full-bodied behemoth of a wine, this is Spring Valley's flagship red and has been in the Wine Spectator Top 100 Wines of the Year twice.

Spring Valley Nina Lee 04 $44.96/$49.95

Wine Spectator 92 points: " Broad and ripe, but not overwhelming, with a deft balance that allows the spicy blackberry and plum flavors to emerge against grainy tannins, lingering effortlessly on the finish. Syrah. Best from 2008 through 2014. 349 cases made." –HS

The nose is earthy, ripe and sweet with scents of dried wild grass, violet, and white chocolate. Flavors of cherry, caramel and chocolate mingle on the palate. This wine has a huge mouthfeel, an attribute that has been consistent across vintages. The long finish is fruity, juicy, and covered with fatty tannins.

Spring Valley Frederick 2004 $44.96/$49.95
only available in special case below

The 2003 vintage received a rating of 92 points from Wine Spectator and 94 points from Wine Advocate (Parker). This vintage is considered better than the 2003 by the winery and by industry tasters. We expect this wine to receive a high score...its intensity is in keeping with the stellar Abeja and Betz 2004 reds we've offered this month, and this wine traditionally scores higher than those wines.

The winery says: "The nose is seductive and fresh with scents of licorice, cassis, and rose petal. The mouth is an explosion of summer fruit: plum, dry cherry, blackberry, and cassis. The tannins are fine grained, concentrated and soft. The acidity keeps the wine in perfect balance and showcases the terrior of Spring Valley Vineyard. Notes of roasted coffee and vanilla linger on the long finish."

59% Cabernet Sauvignon, 24% Merlot, 12% Cabernet Franc and 5% Petit Verdot
