Andrew
Will Sorella and Two Blondes 04
Wines for Happy Dancing
Ever stick your nose
in a glass of wine and do a little dance? Although I’m an animated
person, it takes a serious wine to make my
feet leave the ground. One word: Sorella.
Andrew
Will Sorella 04 $60.26/$66.95
The
2004 Andrew Will Sorella is extraordinary. When
the Avalon team tasted this wine, words like
sensual and seamless came from everyone.
The aromas of black and red cherries were
perfectly entwined with lovely sweet oak
and smoke, pie spice, dark violets and with
time, roasted coffee. Mouthfillingly plush
and juicy flavors of black and red cherries
and dark chocolate-covered blueberries. The tannins
are structured but velvety and the acidity provides
a lift through to the finish, which delicately
caresses your mouth with a mélange
of fruit, minerals, and spicy toast.
While definitely a young
wine, the ’04 Sorella has an openness not usually
found in Andrew Will red wines. We’re
convinced this will prove to be one of the
best Washington 2004 reds.
Take note Champoux
Vineyard fans: the ’04
Sorella is 37% Block I Cabernet Sauvignon—over
30 year old vines!, 21% Merlot, 18% Blocks
II and III Cabernet Franc, and 6% Petit Verdot,
all from the Champoux Vineyard.

2004
Andrew Will Two Blondes Vineyard $46.76/$51.95
Two Blondes, Chris Camarda’s estate vineyard
in Yakima Valley, continues to show tremendous
promise. The ’04 is easily the
best bottling so far.
Alluring aromas of ripe
plums, dark cherries, and smoky bacon float
from the glass. Deliciously concentrated,
rich, dark fresh and dried cherries, plum
and cassis flavors envelope the palate and
carry through the finish.
Like the Sorella,
the Two Blondes is lush and luxuriant but with
perfectly balancing acidity and great structure.
The ’04 Two Blondes will cellar well,
but you may not be able to wait. 44% Cabernet
Franc, 35% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 21% Merlot.

Amy Paul, the newest member of our staff, holds
Le Grand Diplome from Le Cordon Bleu—you’ll

Food pairings for Sorella: The key is
to avoid distracting from the wine (yes,
it’s that good). Pair
it with simple, bold meats like rack of lamb,
aged rib-eye, or venison with no fussy sauces.
Just serve with roasted rosemary potatoes.
Food pairings for Two Blondes:
Because of the lovely acidity and concentration,
consider pan seared duck breast dusted with
Chinese five spice, served rare with coconut
studded jasmine rice. Yum!
Call or e-mail us with
any questions. We’d
love to talk more about the Sorella and Two
Blondes. They’ll make you dance!
