Avalon started 14 years ago as a bed and breakfast in the Oregon wine country, then evolved into a retail store in Corvallis, OR, where it continues today. I put our products on the web in 1999, here we are in cyberspace! Housed in a hundred year old historical building, the Corvallis Arms Hotel, Avalon is a wine and gourmet shop focusing on Oregon and Northwest wines and gourmet foods. We also have a web site office in rural Alpine, in a 102 year old farmhouse in the middle of the foothills of the coastal range, just south of Green Peak Mountain, west of the Willamette Valley wine growing region. Avalon of Oregon, the store, has hosted Oregon, Washington, and California winemakers and has offered a popular Saturday food and wine tasting at the store for over ten years. Avalon publishes a weekly wine email newsletter, hosts a monthly wine tasting club, and offers periodic beginning, intermediate, and advanced classes on aspects of wine. Avalon also hosts frequent Oregon gourmet food tastings and ships Oregon gourmet products from over 100 different Oregon businesses to customers around the world.
Ann Crowley Ann has extensive knowledge of wines from all over the world, especially northwest wines. Ask her about food and wine matches- she'll come up with a great combo. Ann also manages the Avalon deli. Ann has a cat named Maxwell, who enjoys Ann's cooking. She has a boyfriend named Ward who also enjoys her cooking and her sunny personality.
For more than 20 years,
Christina Kelly worked as a newspaper reporter on the West Coast, covering
education, public safety, government, business, environmental issues,
entertainment and minority affairs. This intelligent, charming powerhouse graces the Northwest wine industry with her insights, tastings and conversations with those in an industry that has exploded in the past few years. Her column may tell us a funny story that relates to wine, introduce us to a dedicated winemaker with a vision, or provide us with consumer information to make good choices in a field crowded with great wines. Christina's column is one you'll want to read every week.
Cole Danehower is the publisher/editor of the Oregon Wine Report, and principal of CommunicAide Consulting Group LLC, providing expert marketing and communications services to the wine and hi-tech industries. He writes articles and two columns for avalonwine.com and oregon-wine.com. Cole has extensive marketing knowledge- he is a
highly respected consultant in the computer industry who has applied his
expertise to the wine industry in the form of his publication and marketing
consultation. Avalon has gained imeasurably from his advice.
Jean used to work in the computer industry, where she worked in market research on the UNIX operating system and co-authored several books on UNIX. She built and manages the Avalon web site and writes the newsletters and instructional materials for the store. Jean has also written for Wine Today, Organic Gardening Magazine, and Byte Magazine. She has nine cats and lives out in the country in an old farmhouse with a big garden, a bunch of computers, and a lot of telephone lines.
