New Wine Spectator Ratings - Oregon's 2008 Pinot noirs 
Wine Spectator just published several dozen new scores for Oregon 2008 Pinot noirs. Our picks are five outstanding wines from the new reviews: Ayoub, Owen Roe Kilmore, Ransom "Select," Wallace Brook, and Beaux Freres Estate. All show the winemakers and the vintage at their best. Owen Roe $37.76 any 12 bottles Wine Spectator Ripe, round, generous and spicy, brimming with plum, blackberry and currant fruit surrounded by hints of white pepper and clove. The tannins have a light bite, but the finish just keeps preening. Drink now through 2020. 650 cases made. - HS 
Owen Roe Kilmore Pinot noir 08 - THE Owen Roe Pinot noir meets the storied 2008 vintage, falls in love, and makes beautifully balanced and drinkable Pinot. Lush and silky black cherries and berries weave with violets, roasted coffee and dried herbs. There's no stopping the fruit on the 08 Kilmore - it keeps percolating juiciness. Highly recommended. - Marcus 
Ayoub $46.76 any 12 bottles Wine Spectator Silky, polished and beautifully focused to let its orange peel and tea-tinged berry and red currant flavors sail through the long, expressive finish. Stylish and immediately appealing, but there are layers of extra nuances lined up to come out. Drink now through 2018. 400 cases made. -HS Deliciously aromatic. Spiced strawberries and pie cherries, cedar, and a creaminess that flows through the wine from start to finish. The silky red fruits gain weight in the glass and pick up a dark currant bottom note and subtle dried thyme. Perfectly ripe, with sweet fruit finding its match in fresh acidity. This is such a pretty wine - the finish reminds us of a strawberry tart with a dollop of fresh cream. - Marcus
Ransom $22.45 any 12 bottles Wine Spectator Polished, elegant and deftly balanced to let the gorgeous rose petal'accented currant and plum fruit float easily over well-buffed tannins, all of it lingering effortlessly. Drink now through 2018. 800 cases made. - HS 
Beaux Freres $67.45 any 12 bottles MAGNUMS AVAILABLE (BELOW) Wine Spectator 93 points Light in color and body, this is deftly balanced to let the gorgeous raspberry, cherry and espresso flavors emerge easily and waft through the long, expressive finish, remarkably without much weight. Impressive for its style and refinement. Drink now through 2018. - HS Perfection. Classic. Perfection. Classic. A tremendous perfumed nose blossoms in the glass. Co-mingling of rose petal, lavender, crushed raspberry, forest floor, fresh turned earth, incense, roasted meat, cedar, and barely there peppery spice. Fascinating to try in 10, 15, 20 years. In retrospective tastings of Oregon Pinot held in a decade or more from now, this will be the chief attraction. - Jean Dark ruby with deep core of purple. This wine displays a striking minerality, plenty of forest floor along with raspberry and black current fruit profile. There is more structure, acidity and tannin and it cuts a fuller more complex profile framed in a hint of creamy oak. This is one of the best wines we have made in the past 18 vintages but it is difficult to compare with previous vintages as it is truly its own unique representation of Pinot. It is certainly richer than the 2007, better balanced than the 2004 and slightly less brash than the 2006. It is a wine for lovers of classic Pinot Noir who look for balance and elegance first along with significant substance to back them up. - the winery Beaux Freres MAGNUMS Very collectible and there's nothing like a magnum for a special party or event.
