SYZYGY means " a moment of perfect alignment among three celestial bodies, such as during a total eclipse". SYZYGY owner and winemaker Zach Brettler is an astronomy buff, thus the name. SYZYGY could also mean "hidden gems" - small amounts of especially good red wines from an insider's winery you want to know.

Syzygy Walla Walla Syrah 05
$27.86/$30.95
Wine Spectator says: "Smooth and velvety, with beautifully focused blackberry, raspberry and plum fruit that bobs and weaves through fine tannins and persists enticingly on the long, long finish. A big wine with unexpected grace, this grabs hold and doesn't let go. Drink now through 2015. 470 cases made. H.S." -June 30, 2008
In the nose, the wines has characteristic meaty, toasty notes underlying the dominant black cherry scent. The flavor is lush and soft, with initial flavors of black cherry and black berry, followed by an explosively spicy hit of blackberry pie. The wine is generous and concentrated, meaty, dense, with full bodied flavors and hints of smoke, licorice, and cherry liquor. Everything is just as it should be in this wine, it has a copious amount of fruit, yet the balance of fruit, tannin, and acid is exceptional. We predict great reviews for this wine and eagerly look forward to Zach's future wines.
Made from a blend of Walla Walla Syrah from Seven Hills, Morrison Lane, Les Collines and a dash of fruit from Horse Heaven Hills vineyards . The Syzygy Syrah is 100% Syrah, and was aged in French oak for 16 months.

Chateau Rollat "Sophie" 06
$26.95/$29.95
Chateau Rollat is a new winery giving you an unusually good value. Bowin is sacrificing profit to gain visibility and customers. Where else can you get an under $30 Walla Walla wine made by the guy who made 100 point Chateau d'Yquem and LaTour's wines for ten years?
Rollat's Sophie is immediately accessible and velvety smooth. Fresh and fruity in nose and on the palate, it has the fleshiness and big flavors of a ripe vintage, while showing the balance and finesse that comes from skilled winemaking. Chateau Rollat's Sophie is the "entry level" wine of owner Bowin Lindgren and famed French winemaker Christine LeSomer.
Grochau Syrah 06
$18.86/$20.95
Another new winery offering value pricing. At Grochau's pricing, you'd have a daunting task finding a better deal.
Hearty, rich, and meaty, John Grochau's Syrah is full of blackberry and black raspberry. Northern Rhone in style, it shows excellent balance not always found in Pacific Northwest Syrah. He included 2% Viognier grapes in the wine, and the Viognier adds a wonderful floral intensity to the scent and a hint of exotic jasmine incense to the wine. This Syrah is a crowd-pleaser right now and will improve with a few years of cellaring.
Va Piano
Bruno's Blend III
$22.45/$24.95
Va Piano's young winemaker and owner Justin Wylie will be a Washington wine superstar one day. Of that I'm sure. He's also a good person and donates part of the proceeds from this excellent value to charity.
A lively, ready to drink blend of black fruit flavors, with hints of barrel spice and soft velvety tannins. Flavors are dominated by intense Italian plum, ripe black cherry, and soft pepper notes. Drink within two years, it's a crowd pleaser.
