Cutting Through The Noise 2007 Washington Reds 
Wednesday's at Avalon are nuts. Winemakers and wine reps swarm around our tasting bar and it's hard to get anything done before four o'clock in the afternoon. At the end of most Wednesdays, you think about all the wines you've tasted - and so often, they clang together. Picture a high school band where each player has a different piece of sheet music...
Yesterday, Wednesday, something cut through the noise and clutter, a prodigy whose craft is far above the others. The wines are from O'Shea Scarborough, from the awesome 2007 Washington vintage.
We are jazzed about the new releases from O'Shea Scarborough. They're unique, compelling, and flat-out delicious. The ultra-small case productions will make these disappear.

Wow. I almost ran out of space writing notes for this wine.
Equal parts Cabernet, Merlot, and Cabernet Franc combine into the 07 Royale. There are so many flavors packed into the glass. You get an idea from the first wiff and then wham - black plum, cassis, coffee, red and black cherry, a burst of black raspberry and blueberry - all identifiable but melded perfectly. Add lavender, milk chocolate and a brine note, this wine is just getting warmed up. An amazing new blend from our favorite up-and-coming Washington producer. - Marcus

Like Cayuse and Reynvaan? Then you really should try the new Black Cask Syrah 07 from O'Shea Scarborough. Less fruit bomb, more character. Dense black fruit, grilled herbs, leather, oil-cured olives, candied violets, meat, graphite - tremendous complexity. Even with the hefty black and blue fruit, this Syrah stays vibrant and fresh.
