Black Cap & Brick House
We're Spoiled
Two of Oregon's Most Collectible Wineries
We're spoiled. We only have to write about the wines we like. Even within that framework, we have our favorites, the wines and wineries that remind us just how fun it is to be in the Oregon wine business.
Black Cap and Brick House.

Personal Label of
Eyrie's Jason Lett
Black Cap Pinot noir 08 unfolds over hours and days. Complex and captivating, Black Cap has become one of most anticipated releases from Oregon. The 08 opens with a lush display of red and black raspberries mixing with morel mushroom.
The aromas more than hint at what's to come in the satiny flavors: yummy raspberries and dark cherries build, picking up a thread of sweet huckleberry while vibrant acidity maintains balance. Hints of sage, mint, and violet permeate the finish, and the tasty berries linger. Very ageable, and highly recommended for the cellar.
Black Cap 08 deftly matches density and concentration with sophistication and elegance. I finished the bottle with the quintessential Oregon pairing: seared Chinook salmon with a strawberry-duck reduction. - Marcus

Oldest Vine, Very Limited
Elegant and sensuous, Black Chardonnay also has a powerful side. It explodes with rich pear and apricot, honey, and stones. As it unfurls, lemon and jasmine enter the scene. Refined, focused, and built for long-term aging, Jason's Chardonnays are helping the world take notice of Oregon Chardonnay. If there's an aristocracy of Oregon wine, this Chardonnay ranks high among the noble. Three barrels were produced in 2008. - Marcus
Limited production created by Eyrie winemaker Jason Lett. "This special cuvee, made from Eyrie's estate Chardonnay plantings, expresses different nuances of our fruit, through skin contact and use of both new and neutral oak." - the winery

You needed a fainting couch for the tasters of Brick House's Boulder Block last week. People were overwhelmed - this is a stunner. Aromatic and gushing, silky and super tasty, Boulder Block combines a delicious bing cherry core of fruit with a classic dustiness (I know, might sound weird, but it's great!). From the smallest parcel of Brick House's estate vineyard. I can't say it better than this: this wine comes with our personal guarantee. - Marcus & Jean
A wine of substantial girth and distinctive aromatic character. The Boulder Block benefits greatly from four to six years in cool cellar.

A nose of rich blackberry cream delivers right out of the bottle. The wine gains weight and texture, opening like a Japanese fan - each fold a new layer of fruit, rose petals, toast, spice box, black cherry, raspberry compote, minerals and grilled herbs.
This is a fascinating wine - spend an hour with it, and every few minutes, you'll find something new and delicious. Where the Boulder Block is showy, Les Dijonnais is more densely structured for the cellar. This more famous Brick House bottling is typically the highest rated wine from Doug's cellar. - Marcus
