Oregon winery owners are asking the federal government to declare six new and unique appellations, or special designations, in the Willamette Valley region, to acknowledge wine produced in those areas.

Abacela
at Avalon
THIS Saturday
April 20th
12 - 4 PM

We are so pleased to be able to host a free tasting of Abacela's wines at the store!

Come try Earl's Tempranillo, Syrah, Merlot, and Malbec. This is a great chance to experience the winery that has pioneered the growing of Tempranillo and other traditional Southern European grape varietals in Oregon. Assistant winemaker Darryl Johnson will pour and answer questions. And the wines will be SALE PRICED for the day.

New Winery- Paschal Winery

Southern Oregon fruit, luscious wines, we are honored to be able to offer these luscious wines to you.

The Pinot noir is the wine to try right now- only a few cases available, It received a gold medal from WIne Press NW - I was fortunate enough to be a judge at the tasting, and tried 160 Pinot noirs in 2 days!!! THIS was the wine we all loved. That southern Oregon fruit just rocks.

Jean's Picks- What I take home when money is tight-
tTaxes, recession, Middle East, Bad Weather, sales are slow and good values are called for- here's my favorites from Oregon and Washington:

Elk Cove La Sirene Pinot Noir, Cabernet, and Pinot Gris-
Adam makes great wines and here's a great value- declassified juice from his regular bottlings at a great value price- under $10 on sale at the store.

O'Reilly Pinot Noir 2000 and Pinot Noir 2001- great values from the Owen Roe guy, these wines are amazing values from declassified juice.

Paschal Pinot Blanc 2000- new southern Oregon winery with a wonderful Alsatian style Pinot blanc that goes great with fish and lighter foods. Just lovely.

Rex Hill Kings Ridge Pinot Noir and Pinot Gris- dependable values that everyone likes.

Powers Parallel 46- a little more than some of the other wines listed here, but for $29.99 its in its 3rd month of being our best buy in the store. You just cannot get a nice Meritage style blended red for this price very often.

OWEN ROE
RELEASES

Very Limited

Owen Roe
Cabernet Franc 2001
$34.99
Available now
The grapes are from Rosa Mystical Block Vineyard, this is a Cab lover's Cab Franc, Black color, ripe fruit, blackberry cedar nose, ripe, rich textured finish. Lay down 5-10 years for a fantastic experience. 85 cases made.

Took awhile, but our allocation is finally here, and its small, so don't wait too long to order. 6 bottle limit per person.

Owen Roe
Yakima Red 2000
$42.99
Available now
A blend of Dubrul Merlot, Owen Roe Cab Franc, and Rosa Mystical Block Yakima Cab, this is the wine David rates #2 of his current red wine releases (Owen Roe Dubrul Cab he rates as #1!) He says this is a HUGE multilayered wine will age for 20 years. THe Rosa Mystical Block Vineyard was hit by hail and the harvest was miniscule, and David being David, he decided not to release the "flawed" Cab by itself but to include it in the Yakima Red blend. 80 cases made.

Owen Roe
Pinot Noir Casablanca VIneyard 2000
$37.99
available now

David says this wine is showing spectacularly now. From the same vineyard as his phenomenal Casablanca Chardonnay.

This Pinot Noir is a blend of 3 clones- Pommard, Dijon 115, and Joseph Swan. They work beautifully together. In later October under graying skies with the arrival of the Fall weather fronts the grapes were harvested at optimum ripeness and flavors and 24.2 Brix. Aged in a combination of new, first, second, and neutral barrels, the wine is exquisite. Its fragrance is seductive, the fruit intense, and the texture pure silk. And, in the spirit of Casablanca, "here's looking at you, kid!" 284 cases made.

Owen Roe
Pinot Gris 2001
$23.99
available now

David is so excited about this wine. The industry buzz is that this is the best Pinot Gris ever made in Oregon- David says its his favorite white wine he ever made. It's incerdibly rich, almost oily in texture. It tastes so rich, you think it must have a lot of sugar, but it's only .6%- just at the edge of where sugar is detectable! It finishes with big acidity, making it excellent for food. The Cassablacna Vineyard has a distinct terroir, and David says it really comes through in this wine, with distinct pear and Pineapple notes in the fruit flavors. Don't miss this gem!

LAST CHANCE for
David's Sineann
Baby Poux Cabernet Sauvignon 2000
$32.99

As you know if you've been following these newsletters, I think this wine is a great value. David has a few cases left, and this is the wine to drink while you wait the 5-20 years that his Owen Roe wines need to cellar to perfection.

2000 notes: Great structure, good blackberry Bordeauxlike Cassis, cedar, good weight, silky tannins. Cabernet from the Baby poux Vineyard has the usual gushing, over the top flavors that characterize the wines of Sineann. A Columbia Valley vineyard, older vines, there are complex flavors here that hint at much to come. Best 2003-2006, although most of it won't last that long. Only 100 cases made.
