IPNC-
It's not too late to Attend!
International
Pinot Noir
Celebration
"An Afternoon
of Pinot Noir"
Linfield College
McMinnville, OR
Sunday July 28th
2-5 PM
This is, bar none,
the best Pinot Noir tasting you will ever attend. It is usually sold
out by April! We are so fortunate to have a few tickets available. If
you attend once, you'll make this a must see event every year.
I especially enjoy
the chance to meet winemakers from across the world and hear their take
on Oregon pinot noir. And the food is scrumptous. Ann and I (Jean) will
both be there. We hope to meet some of our far-flung readers and compare
tasting notes!
Oh- the food is
fabulous, too.

In the New World corner will be Jimi Brooks, creator of knock-out wines
like Brooks Riesling and Janus Pinot Noir. Hes teamed up with
the dynamic Westrey duo, David Autrey and Amy Wesselman, with their
body-slamming Pinot Gris and Pinot Noir. From the Old World, two IPNC
newcomers: Daniel Big G Gantenbein, whos been knocking
them dead in Switzerland for years; and the unstoppable Ernie Hair
Doktor Loosen, fresh from his triumph in the German Riesling Rumble
(2001 Winemaker of the Year). Chef Serge Selbe, formerly of Fish Tales
and now executive sous chef at the Benson Hotel, will set the stage
with a ravishing feast to accompany the wines. $125 per person.

I just can't believe we still have this wine available-
it is drinking superbly right now, Mike told me he thinks its drinking
the best of all his wines- this wine has somehow slipped through our
system and we still have it available- I cannot recommend this wine
too much, it is absolutely outstanding. ---JY

Spectator
Wine Spectator says: "Bright and breathtakingly
pure in flavor, with marvelously focused berry and cherry flavors on
a crisp, firm frame. The flavors last and last, even if they get a little
peppery on the finish. Drink now through 2005. 175 cases made. (HS)"
We say- we can't believe we still have
some of this- it is such a wonderfully priced wine for cellaring. This
will be the gem you pull out in 5 or 6 years and show your friends what
Oregon Pinot noir is all about!
Penner Ash Pinot Noir 2000
$49.99
ORDER
HERE
Just released - Lynn and Ron Penner-Ash step up to
the plate and make a big, cellar-worth wine that is still very closed.
Last vintage
rated 93 points from Parker, who
said this: "This 1999 Pinot Noir has magnificent nose of cookie
dough and cherry syrup. Medium to full-bodied and broad, it is rich,
intense, wonderfully concentrated, and highly expressive. Loads of sweet
red and black fruits coat the taster's palate and linger for 30-40 seconds.
It is a seamless, harmonious wine with gorgeous balance and purity.
Anticipated maturity 2004-2012."
We're sure the 2000 will be as good or
better a wine. JY
Belles Soeurs Shea Vineyard 2000
$45.99
ORDER
HERE
Wine Spectator 90 points:
"Shea Vineyard lies a few miles west of the winery, on an extension
of the same ridge, and it makes open-textured, easy-drinking Pinots.
This one is supple and flavorful, offering spiced red raspberry and
currant flavors that ride smoothly and elegantly on the fine-grained
tannins through a long finish. Drink now through 2006.H.S."
Bergstrom Pinot Noir Arcus Vineyard 2000
$53.99
ORDER
HERE
Definitely for cellaring, the Arcus has strong
floral notes of violets followed by deep rich black fruit, spice, and
toast. Its entry is large-scaled and persistent followed by mouth-coating
folded tannins. Grapes from the highly regarded Archery Summit Arcus
Vineyard.
Chehalem Pinot Noir Rion Reserve 99
$49.00

Wine Advocate (Parker) 93
points:
"The black cherry, rose, and blackberry-scented 1999 Pinot Noir
Rion Reserve is produced from a barrel selection of the Ridgecrest Vineyard.
Medium to full-bodied and layered, with candied berries, compotes of
cherries, and jammy strawberries, it is a broad, big, muscular wine
with an elegant character and an impressively long, supple, fruit-filled
finish. Anticipated maturity: 2005-2012."

92
points Wine Spectator
Wine Spectator says: "Bright and juicy, with fine-grained
tannins around lively currant, raspberry and plum flavors, shaded with
floral notes. Rife with acidity, but the intense flavors explode on
the finish, suggesting this just needs a bit of cellaring to settle
down. Best from 2003 through 2007." 92 Points. Harvey Steiman.
