RELEASES THIS WEEK:
Argyle
Pinot Noir Nuthouse Vineyard 2000 $37.99 Intro Price
Regular price $42.99
The 99 vintage received 93 points in Wine Spectator and we expect
this wine to rank up there as well. This may be the biggest
Nuthouse yet! The cellar staff call this wine "Wild Thing".
Pop the cork and you will see why. Expect a very rich aroma
of huckleberry preserves, Indian spices like cardamon, vanilla
and clove, and earthy aromas like newly turned stony garden
soil. THe flavor is dominated by a very sweet concentrated fruit
center. Then as one tastes away from this center point, layers
of blueberry, vanilla creme, and cassis slide across the palate.
The firm structure is rounded by the sweet center and surprisingly
structured tannins. The finish is long, long, and charactierized
by cedar and preserved blackberries and huckleberries.
Patricia
Green Cellars Sauvignon Blanc 2001-$18.99
Very limited, sells out sooo fast, if you're a member of the
fan club, now's the time to order! Plump, rich, loaded with
tangy grapefruit and crisp pears, a refreshing finish, a highly
expressive nose of fruit and floral components. Drink now through
2003.
Antica
Terra Pinot Noir 2000 $39.99-
one word- yumm! Scent of restrained fresh strawberry, char,
spice, flavors of jammy
black cherry,
strawberry, violets, outstanding wine drinking between 2004
and 2008.
Broadley
Marcile Lorraine Pinot Noir 2000 $49.99- very limited
and you will be so happy if you purchase this outstanding wine
and cellar it for 4-12 years. Has a cult following, people always
want it in droves after we sell out our tiny allocation.....
Craig Broadley says: "loads of nothing but black: black
cherries, blackberries, black plums, black currants, black licorice
and Nori, the black seaweed that wraps your sushi rolls. This
is a dark and coilossal melange of brooding power. No hard tannins
just loads of super-fine almost silky tannins. A cellar worthy
wine if ever."
Elk
Cove Pinot Noir Windhill 2000 $32.00 An excellent growing
season in 2000 produced deeply ripe clusters and yielded a wine
with intense black cherry and cassis aromas. Characteristic
of Pinot Noirs from Windhill Vineyard, the peppery spice flavors
complement the berry notes to offer a deliciously complex wine.
The finish is long and smooth, with hints of caramel. With proper
storage this wine will age gracefully for several years.
Elk
Cove Pinot Noir La Boheme 2000 $32
Owen
Roe Yakima Red Meritage 2000 $42.99 A blend of Dubrul
Merlot, Owen Roe Cab Franc, and Rosa Mystical Block Yakima Cab,
this is the wine David rates #2 of his current red wine releases
(Owen Roe Dubrul Cab he rates as #1!) He says this is a HUGE
multilayered wine will age for 20 years. The Rosa Mystical Block
Vineyard was hit by hail and the harvest was miniscule, and
David being David, he decided not to release the "flawed"
Cab by itself but to include it in the Yakima Red blend. 80
cases made. We also still have a little Owen Roe Cab Franc,
Owen Roe Pinot Gris, and Sineann Baby Poux Cab left. And the
Big Reds Wine Club members are receiving their Owen Roe Dubrul
Cab and Dubrul Merlot in early May.
Penner-Ash
Syrah 2000 $35.99
Deep purple color, dense black fruit with heavy roasted coffee
notes, oak-vanillian flavors. Lush, round, elegant character
with spicy finish. This is a remarkably rich wine and will be
a show stopper at your next dinner party. Lynn and Ron Penner-Ash
are brilliant winemakers!
Woodward
Canyon Old Vine Cabernet $60.00
This 1999 "old vines" cabernet sauvignon is a powerful
and worthy successor to 1995, 1997 and 1998 "old vines".
Flavors of ripe raspberry and blackberry married with spicy,
toasted oak and vanilla explode in the mouth! The color is deeply
purple and the texture is concentrated and rich, yet supple.
It will benefit greatly from additional cellaring, and with
proper storage, should last 15 years.
