Cheap and Good Wine from Oregon Evening Land, Grochau, Illahe, Stafford Hill 
Great values from four hot Oregon winemakers. John Grochau's $13.95 Commuter Cuvee Pinot noir 08, a tribute to Portland's bicycle culture, includes some of John's higher priced Pinots in the blend. Perfumed, bright, vibrant and fresh. Evening Land Vineyard at $10.75! ELV's superstar consulting winemaker Dominique LaFon made this Moulin-a-Vent sourced Beaujolais Village for Evening Land at his winery in France. A luscious wine at an incredible price. Hot winemaker Jay Somers of J. Christopher made the $17.05 second label Stafford Hill Pinot noir 08. It's a blend of wine that didn't make the cut for his higher priced Pinots. Newsflash: Illahe Vineyard is growing some of the Willamette Valley's best fruit. With the exception of their Reserve Pinot, everything they make is under $20. Grochau Cellars $13.95 any 12 bottles - "Bike Wine" This is a $24 Pinot, minus the $10. Wild strawberry and cherry that's super forward and rich. Need Pinot for the summer? You need to commute! Grochau Cellars "Commuter" Pinot noir 09 is the "Bike Wine" that's snapped up in Portland (where John is based) as soon as it appears. John Grochau says: "bright, fresh, vibrant, perfumed. I sacrificed some of my high end Pinots to make this vintage of the "Bike" especially good. It includes fruit from Domaine Coteau's vineyard." (It also contains fruit from another famous vineyard that he did not want to name). John is drinking the '09 "Bike Wine" with herb and chevre chicken stuffed baked chicken, grilled salmon, and dishes made with wild mushrooms. 
$17.05 any 12 bottles See all Under $20 Northwest Wines - Made by Jay Somers, Stafford Hill's Pinot noir, made by hot winemaker Jay Somers, featured in the national press for his new joint venture with famed German winery Dr. Loosen. Stafford Hill is one of Oregon's most affordable Pinot noirs. It comes and goes in a couple of weeks in early summer. It's selling for $21+ elsewhere across the country. "Quite nice once it gets some air. Delicate aromas of crumbly earth, cherry, and orange peel. The bright flavors of the same, along with a pinch of peppery spice, show good length. Brisk yet gentle acidity and smooth, medium-light texture." - Wicker Parker, on Cellar Tracker 
Evening Land Vineyards $12.55 any 12 bottles See all Evening Land Vineyards Wines Dominique LaFon is Evening Land Vineyards' famous consulting winemaker. Based in France, he made the Evening Land Vineyards' Beaujolais Villages from Moulin-a-Vent fruit. A super closeout price. Lively and fun Beaujolais fruit is partially tamed, soft, luscious, and has enough tannins and structure to be cellared. Don't be fooled by the label declaring it a village wine, this is Moulin-a-Vent all the way. Dominique LaFon's Domaine des Comtes-Lafon is world renowned for producing some of the greatest white Burgundies ever made. As Neal Martin (Robert Parker's Wine Advocate) states: "A great wine from Dominique Lafon is something that will be etched upon your vinous memory for many years".
