High Scoring 2007 Washington Big Reds
Buty Rediviva 93 Points
Gorman Zachary's Ladder, The Bully 07's
NEW Owen Roe Sinister Hand 09
Washington's wines continue to live up to their reputation for uncommon quality at reasonable prices. These Gorman, Buty, and Owen Roe wines prove the point.
Caleb Buty's Rediviva of the Stones is made with grapes from the source of many of Walla Walla's highest rated wines, the stony fields on the Oregon side of the Columbia River.
Owen Roe's Sinister Hand is David O'Reilly's Grenache blend and an Avalon customer favorite. The 2009 vintage has just been released!
Chris Gorman's wines are blockbusters - and ideal for cellaring. Robert Parker's Wine Advocate calls Chris's style "full-throttle," "saturated," and "plush and full-bodied."

New for September 2010
70% Grenache, 25% Syrah, 3% Mourvedre, 2% Counoise.
From the winery -
Clear, garnet color bearing beautiful wild strawberry, tayberry, black
pepper with red and black currant notes. Precise on the palate with satisfying acid that provides framework for the ripe black fruit and baked brown earth finish.
The Grenache lends excellent, festive red fruit while the Syrah and Mouvedre add savory notes: stewed dark fruits, sweet herb and complex earthiness. Pair this wine with roasted fowl, pork and lighter beef dishes as well as washed rind cheeses.
On this label the family crest depiction of a severed left hand tells the story of a rowing competition among the O'Neill's & the O'Reilly's (Owen Roe was an ONeill). Whoever touched land first after rowing across the lake was rewarded with the land he touched. Lagging behind, one of the kinsfolk grabs his sword to cleave his hand and pitches it ashore to touch land first. He won the land and eventually ruled over it as king.
