Soter Mineral Springs 07, Belle Pente Murto 07 
You'd think with all of the 2008 Oregon Pinot releases and all the praise for the vintage, we'd be done waiting for 2007 Pinots. Not so. When you have high expectations, like we do, you keep waiting for the best. - We've been waiting for the Dusky Goose Rambouillet Vineyard 07 since the first sniff and taste of the 2007 Dusky Goose Dundee Hills. For those who follow Dusky Goose, you know how consistently awesome it is. A top 10 Oregon Pinot every vintage since the first wine in 2002 - that's as rare as the Dusky Goose. - We taste and re-taste as much Oregon Pinot - probably more - as any major wine critic on the planet. And we taste wines over the course of several days, so we really get to know a wine. - So when we write that Dusky Goose, Soter Mineral Springs, and Belle Pente Murto 07 Pinots kick ass, we speak from experience. 
Dusky Goose - Damn. The Rambouillet 07 opens up with aromas of sweet raspberry and huckleberry, foreshadowing the rush of bountiful flavors that builds and darkens on your palate. Dark dried cherry strolls in before black berry - picked from the vine and popped into your mouth - carries the finish. Delicate accents of Provencal herbs and pepper add an extra element to the commanding fruit and ultra silky texture. The 07 Rambo is pretty and powerful. - Only 85 cases released - virtually all of it goes into the cellars of private collectors. The wine was aged 8 months in 35% new barrels and prior to bottling, was allowed to integrate in tank 6 weeks for optimal integration. Then, the 2007 Rambouillet waited patiently in bottle for 20 months. Cellar for one to three years before drinking. - Even though the 2006 Rambouillet sold out over 8 months ago, the Carters didn't rush to release the 2007. All Dusky Goose Pinots, especially the The Rambouillet, are released when they are ready. There's no rush to market or hurry to get a review to sell the wines. - The 2007 Rambouillet Vineyard Pinot is a blend of three Pinot noir clones: Pommard, 777, and the "Mystery Block" (which is suitcase clone from the La Tache Vineyard brought back from France in the early '80's) This is the second release of a Rambouillet Vineyard designate Pinot noir. - Marcus 
Dusky Goose
Balanced and beautiful. A rich and graceful perfume of raspberry, rose, cherry, spice box and raspberry tea introduces the superbly layered Dusky Goose 07.
Replete with sweet, succulent fruit, the palate fans out with dark dried cherry, raspberries and fresh cream, with hints of darker berries. Full and round, silky and ripe, the Dusky finishes with its classic truffle note, caramel, mixed berries and a touch of dried thyme.
The Dusky 07 has a long life ahead of it - our first bottle was open for five days and continued changing, staying fresh through the last sip. This is a highlight of the vintage. - Marcus 
Soter $43.16 any 12
WOW. One of the most exciting 2007 Pinots made. Dark in nature, oozing with delectable black raspberry and cherry and a bottom note of fresh Oregon blackberries. Cellared for extra year before release and it shows. - The Mineral Springs 07's rich blackberry and black cherry flavors, accented by spice and a hint of incense are round and full. Beautifully textured, the silky tannins, impressive complexity, and a long finish make this a wine you'll find a special place for in your cellar. - As in previous vintages, this is one of our choices for top Pinots of the vintage. Glorious aromas of herbs, forest, graham, and black fruit manage to express both the richness of this bounteous wine and the elegance of Soter's expert winemaking. - Jean & Marcus 
Belle Pente $31.46 any 12 - The Belle Pente Murto Vineyard 07 is dark, complex and elegant. Its character is both satisfying and a bit mysterious. - At right, Brian O'Donnell and his beard - 
After swirling the glass to open the wine, classic Pinot aromas of rose petal, blackberry and raspberry, plus a whisper of red cherry and currant filled the bowl. - Tasting, I was immediately struck by the texture - silky and responsive, playing well with flavors of blackberry, bramble, fresh earth, and subtle spices. Still a bit tight the fresh, lively fruit expands with increasing appeal. There's enough structure here for cellaring 5-8 years. - Murto Vineyard Pinot has seduced wine lovers across the country with it's clean earthiness, bright red fruit, and intriguing, unique spiciness. It is often described by others as "sublimely Burgundian." - Jean
