Domaine Meriwether
Oregon Winery
Domaine Meriwether winemaker Jean-Louis Denois, a native of Champagne, comes from a family with five generations in the sparkling wine business. He has made wines in the Languedoc and South Africa to high praise. This is his first US wine venture.
Winery owner Jack Bagdade is a physician and founder of the influential Pike and Western Wine Merchants in Seattle. Jack now lives in Eugene, Oregon.
As of August of 2002, Domaine Meriwether will make its wine at the new Carlton Winemakers Studio, a project of Eric Hamacher.
The winery has released a new sparkler this summer, called Captain William Clark Cuvee. A special blend is planned for the bicentennial of the Lewis and Clark expedition in 2005. Labels incorporate Native American and Lewis and Clark related symbolism.
