UP AND COMING WINEMAKER YOU WANT TO KNOW
Tyson Crowley's

Crowley Wines Pinot noir
Willamette Valley 07

Avalon Wine

Crowley Wines was founded by Tyson Crowley in 2007. Tyson trained "on the job" at Erath, Cameron, J.K. Carriere, and Brick House wineries in Oregon's North Willamette Valley. We've sold his wines since his very first 2005 Pinot noir, and he's special. His experience with some of Oregon's most interesting winemakers shows - his skills are considerable. We've worked with Oregon's winemakers for 23 years and he has that special something we've learned makes a star winemaker. He's a wine guy you want to know.

Tyson has produced three vintages of his own wines while continuing as assistant winemaker at esteemed Cameron Winery. He recently married Emily Berreth, co-founder of super cool Plate & Pitchfork, a summer only catering/event company that produces a few highly sought after dinners each year in the vineyards of Oregon wine country.

The nose has a blend of resin and leather arromatics with a mix of cinnamon and spice, reminiscent of holiday potpourri. Lavender and thyme also enter the picture. There is a grace note of burnt match which is fleeting as the wine opens up.

On the palate, I like the way it has both bright and dark fruit, mostly cherry and raspberry. The earthiness is very present with a dusty woodiness (not oak) underneath. There are again traces of herbs, thyme and rosemary. The acidity and tannin are balanced with the fruit, and the wine has substantial length on the back pallet. With classic pinot noir framework, the alcohol is very much in check, keeping the wine refreshing. - Tyson

Crowley Wine's 2007 Chardonnay is made from the 28 year old Maresh Vineyard, whose old vine Chardonnay is coveted by winemakers. Chardonnays made from Maresh fruit usually sell for $35 or more. At $20.95, the complex, elegant, and intense 07 Crowley Chardonnay is a standout.

Orchard fruit flavors of green apple, citrus and pear flavors do a delicious dance here. Bright acidity and hints of stony minerality provide top notes to rounded, deep flavors of oak, vanilla, and spice. Aging in wood enriches the texture and provides fullness and weight.
