Beaux Freres
|
1996 Vintage Another cool year, even for Oregon, the 1996 was made from very ripe fruit and extremely small yields. It retains a youthful dark ruby color as well as a tight but promising nose of red currants, black cherries, graphite, smoke, and earth. Medium-bodied and more austere than other Beaux Frères vintages, but beautifully pure, vibrant, and vigorous. It is maturing slowly which is always a good sign. It is not our most concentrated or succulent
effort, but there is a very Burgundian character to the wine, and many
of our European friends feel this vintage comes close to the Burgundian
model, particularly a Côte de Nuits. Anticipated maturity: 2002-2014.
