AYOUB "MEMOIRS" PINOT NOIR
A Blend of Oregon Wine Royalty
Mo Ayoub's tribute to his family, "Memoirs" Pinot noir 07 $29.95/$26.95, is a blend of four Pinots from highend, highly-rated Oregon wineries - so good that they could be described as Oregon wine royalty.
Mo bought barrels of their wine for his "Memoirs" project under the condition that they remain anonymous.
Although we can't tell you the wineries' names, the quality is obvious. Ayoub's Estate wine is one of the four sources. The other three are top tier Oregon wineries, familiar to everyone. What's your guess?

A
"Memoir" in honor of Mo Ayoub's fond recollections of family, this Pinot is dark in the glass, with a vivid perfume of sweet cherry and raspberry, dried roses, and a hint of spicy incense. Velvet-textured and ripe, the wine is flush with black cherry and blackberry flavors, seasoned with a hint of Bourbon vanilla. Soft tannins balance a streak of fresh red cherry acidity that adds structure. Swirling the glass, the finish evolves to include a reiteration of rose petal and incense notes. - Avalon
The 2007 Memoirs is a blend of Pinot Noir created from four select top producing vineyards in the Dundee Hills & Eola Hills AVAs. The wine was barrel aged for 18 months in 25% new and 75% older French oak barrels. It has aromas of dark cherry preserves, exotic spice and a hint of eucalyptus. The mouth-feel is broad and silky with subtle oak spice and soft tannins framing elegant cherries, red plum, cranberry and maple. The lengthy finish is highlighted by seductively sweet vanilla and well balanced acidity. This wine will benefit from time in the cellar, and it has 7-10 years aging potential.

Rex Pickett, author of "Sideways"
says of Ayoub Pinot noir:
"Ayoub's wines are bold, rustic and some of the finest expressions of the pinot noir grape I've ever tasted."
"Maybe it's unfair to single out one winemaker to the exclusion of so many others in the Willamette Valley, but Ayoub is emblematic of what's happening with Oregon pinot: small production, hands-on approach, and intimate and rigorous control over the final product".

Ayoub
Estate Pinot noir 07
$51.95/$46.76
A huge mid palate of concentrated flavor - on the darker side compared to many of 2007 Pinots. Loads of blueberry, oak spice, hints of vanilla cream and black currant, finishing with scrumptious black cherry and brown sugar. When first opened, the acidity is prominent, but it softens nicely with time in a decanter. Like many of the high-end 2007 Pinots, this will enjoy a long life in your cellar, and pairs well with food in the near term.
Mo Ayoub's vineyard is in a great neighborhood. With a four-acre parcel tucked into the prime Pinot land of the Dundee Hills, Mo is a stone's throw from Maresh, Rambouillet (Dusky Goose), Winderlea (Goldschmidt), and many other oustanding vineyards. 2007 is the final vintage of Ayoub made by Josh Bergstrom.
Tasting notes from the winery: The 2007 Ayoub Pinot Noir has dark color with surprising levels of intensity, concentration, and finesse from good physiological ripeness. It is consistent with the unique style of the vineyard - boasting amazing aromas of raspberries, black cherries and nutmeg, presenting remarkable structure, silky tannins and minerality. The wine is heightened by bright acidity, hints of complex earth and pepper that provide a long and layered finish. This wine will reward patience and will benifit from time in the cellar. It has great potential to age in the bottle for 10+ years. This is a very exciting vintage showcasing Oregon's cool, classic style.
