Coming next week-
Christina on
Cuneo Cellars-
This is a winery that has been transformed from a tiny place in the Eola Hills, to a Tuscan-style winery next to Carlton Studios.

The wines, once considered average, are now beauts--better grape contracts, more extraction--great values. These are wines tasting better than wines that sell for a third more.

New !
NW Style Section

Wine and food, travel and leisure, organic living, more to come! Try recipes from the best restaurants in the northwest, read about what makes the NW great!

Come and see us this Summer!

The summer weather here is wonderful, it's calm and rural and slow moving except in Portland and Seattle, the wine country is still farmland instead of Disneyland, you often get to taste wine with owners or winemakers, there's lots of outdoor activities, etc etc. In brief- this is a great summer to visit Oregon or Washington!

Email us if you are interested in coming out and let us know where you want to go, and we'll try to help with a little personal assistance- where the locals go, places that don't show up in the guidebooks, etc.

What's on Jean's Kitchen Sink?

There's empty bottles of four wines that disappeared so fast!

Cougar Crest is a new winery from Walla Walla that took top honors at the very very fancy LA County Fair and the equally prestigious NW Wine Summit. The word is "flamboyant" for their Merlot, with the Cabernet a slightly more dignified but equally over-the-top style.

Morgan Broadley called yesterday to tell me about some special wine- a Broadley Pinot noir 01 for $15.99. Since Broadley makes world class award winning Pinots in tiny amounts that sell out so fast my head spins, I ran right over and got a bottle. Yow! What a deal! It's their Reserve 01, declassified, and it is yummy. Big, rich, reminds me of the Bergstrom Pinot Noir 01 that sold out here is about an hour. The market for wine has resulted in some amazing deals. This wine could cellar for 4-6 years with continued satisfaction.Very comparable to wines selling for $30+.

And then there's the empty bottle of Townshend Cellars Cabernet Sauvignon 98- not much available from that vintage, and this first wine from eastern Washington is beautifully balanced with those luscious black cherry, deeply roasted coffee, sweet tobacco and toasty oak, chocolate, plum, and licorice flavors. Tried squeezing, shaking, wheedling but there just is nothing left in this bottle! Top rated Cabernet at Wine Press NW's Fab Cab tasting, Andy told me this was a good one.... he was right.

Here's hoping you and yours are enjoying a safe and fun summer. We hope to hear from you soon, and thank you for supporting our store with your orders!

Here are some fantastic wines that I have been tasting lately that I thought you might enjoy:

Winters Hill Pinot Noir 98
I tried it this past weekend, and it is tasting just beautifully. Rich in the mouth feel with a real Burgundian nose and aftertaste. Pinot Noirs can take on a fruit forwardness, and this one has not done so. It is light to medium bodied and reminded me of a good French Red Burgundy. Great with Salmon or Halibut.

Jigsaw Pinot Noir - $13.99 - this is a medium bodied wine that really stands out from the crowd. Good earthy mushroom nose with a good dark fruit middle and the finish is perfect. Dark fruit with some oak but not too much. Great wine for the price. You simply cannot get a better Pinot Noir at this price for the fantastic flavors!! It is long but not lingering with a strong acidic backbone to stand up to everything including Lamb.

Briggs Hill "White" $11.99 - perfect for summertime. Great easy sipper that has good weight in the mouth and lots of fruit to mix with a long finish. Not a heavy wine just a good bottle of Muller Thurgau. Pair this with your favorite Spicy dish.

Adea Pinot Noir Reserve 2000
- Wow! What a great Pinot Noir. The flavors are rich dark chocolate with an earthy flavor to finish it. Great with just about everything.

Maysara Pinot gris 01 $15.99 - one of my Pinot Gris picks for the week. Stunning mineral and anise nose with a spice apple middle that just explodes in the mouth. Fantastic wine.

Belle Pente Riesling 01 $14.99 - Delicious Riesling that is not sweet, just good. Very "German" in style - if you like a more mineral, dry Riesling, this is the one for you.

Not on the web site - call to order.
Winter's Hill Dry Rose '02 - $12.99 - this has a very pretty nose with a touch of strawberry and cranberry. Not sweet, with a nice dry finish. Delicious stuff. Good structure and long, crisp finish make this a perfect match for salads, cold cuts, a cheese plate or even BBQ chicken.

Incredible Low Price!

Broadley Pinot Noir 01 $15.99
This is declassified wine that would have gone into
Reserve quality bottlings!
Fabulous aromas of toasted cherries, allspice, and pepper.Vibrant, rich, red fruit flavors with great length. Excellent ageability.
