Mike Etzel's winery Beaux Freres Winery made a special "cuvee" in 2001. Called "Les Cousins", it is a blend of Pinot noir grapes from Oregon vineyards that produce small amounts of very highly prized grapes. The majority of the fruit comes from the old vine Goldschmidt Vineyard, owned by the former Governor of Oregon. This vineyard is planted to Pommard and Wadenswil fruit and is over 20 years old.

Wines from Goldschmidt Vineyard tend to be opulent, intense, lush, filled with red fruits and a creamy soft finish. Mike Etzel balanced the Golschmidt fruit with lesser amounts of Temperance Hill and Ana Vineyards fruit. They provide backbone and structure to this outstanding blend.

Released last September, the wine has gained considerable weight and focus in both nose and palate and is now drinking beautifully. The nose has spice and black cherry aromas, and a hint of rose petals. The flavors are of forward red fruits, berries, white peppercorn, and plum. The texture on the finish is creamy and lasts a long time.

We have a small amount of this wine available at a greatly reduced price. Its suggested retail is $40 from Robert Kacher, for whom the wine was made, and it is running between $35 and $42 on the web right now.
