Wine Spectator Insider 8-4-2010 Bergstrom de Lancellotti Pinot noir Wine Spectator 94 points - We are enchanted with the nose of the de Lancellotti 08. At the risk of sounding too obvious: it just smells like great Pinot! A spectrum of spices and beautiful fruit makes this jump right out of the glass. So pretty, so rich, unfurling layers of sun-ripened raspberries, a melange of cherries and specks of wild blueberry that stay bright, meshing with strawberry, licorice, cinnamon and minerals on the silky finish. Come to think of it, the whole wine in enchanting! Showy and balanced, you can drink this now if you want but it'll be better with 18 months plus in the cellar. - Marcus New Owen Roe Wines for August 2010
LAST CALL Owen Roe $37.76 any 12 bottles LAST FEW CASES LEFT! THE Owen Roe Pinot noir meets the storied 2008 vintage, falls in love, and makes beautifully balanced and drinkable Pinot. Lush and silky black cherries and berries weave with violets, roasted coffee and dried herbs. There's no stopping the fruit on the 08 Kilmore - it keeps percolating juiciness. Highly recommended.
Owen Roe $18.86 any 12 bottles NEW FOR AUGUST - Lush, tropical and creamy balanced by lively acidity. The 2009 Columbia Valley replaces the Dubrul Vineyard Chardonnay for the 2009 vintage - its value price makes it exceptional. - Marcus
$18.86 any 12 bottles Brand new release. The new Sharecropper's Pinot says "check me out!" Yep, it's forward. Big, ripe red fruit and spice with a supple texture, the 09 will please fans of the 2006 (and there were a lot of them). - Marcus New Oregon Wines for August 2010 This Month's Features:
Shea Wine Cellars $48.99 any 12 bottles See all Shea Wine Cellars wines - Opulent and showy, even within the context of Shea Pinots, the Block 5 has an intense, distinctive character of candied violets and sweet wild berries that coast towards the finish on a silky slide. Toasty tannins provide a backdrop for the big fruit to shine. Block 5 is the second-most limited 2008 Shea Pinot (Block 22 being the tiniest production) and the final 2008 release from Shea Wine Cellars. Block 5, on Shea Vineyard's East Hill, used to make up a significant chunk of the Homer bottling.
- Marcus
Carter Vineyard $41.98 any 12 bottles See all Carter Vineyards Wines The nose invites you into the warm earth, truffly-seductiveness of Pinot, coupled with a lush fruit perfume that more than hints at what's next. Dark cherry and berry flavors circle around your mouth, coating every taste bud before leaving slowly with a 30 second-plus finish of thyme, cream, fresh blackberry, cherry skin, and graham. Made by Ken Wright. - Marcus
$21.96 any 12 bottles Remember that Austin Powers character yelling "Get in my belly?" That's what I'm shouting at my glass of Belle Pente Dundee Hills 08! Simply spectacular juice that combines savory and spicy elements into a lively Pinot with the palate sweetness I crave, the black cherry and licorice that makes my mouth water. An outstanding value. - Marcus
$17.95 any 12 bottles Bill Hanson is assistant winemaker at Panther Creek Wine Cellars, and has his own winery as well. Libra Wines is named for his wife's astrological sign and inspired by the mythology of Greece. Fresh red berries and cherry aromas dominate this juicy wine. Sweet red fruit flavors (raspberry, cherry, strawberry) are enlivened by a tangy hint of minerals and earth. A little air time evens and mellows this ready to drink Pinot noir. - Jean New Washington Wines for August 2010 This Month's Features:
Andrew Will $25.61 any 12 bottles Chris Camarda's One delicious, well-rounded Cab. Cassis and black cherry, grilled bread, and hints of savory cocoa make for a supreme-value Cabernet. Stock up. - Marcus 30% Champoux Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon $25.61 any 12 bottles I'm not the only wine lover who has missed Chris Camarda's Merlot. I ended up drinking the better part of a case of his last single-varietal Merlot - 2002 Klipsun Vineyard - so I'm very excited about the return of an AW Merlot. The 2008 is classic Washington Merlot: handfuls of dark cherries and plums, cedar, and sweet tobacco are supported by nice tannins that add backbone and just the right grip. I can't think of a better Washington Merlot for the price. - Marcus 50% Ciel du Cheval Vineyard Merlot
$23.36 any 12 bottles A Melange of Superstars Lots of dark cherry and plum flavors, cedar, toast, saddle leather, cigar smoke, espresso. Classic Washington red, it's 60% Cabernet Sauvignon. Lots and lots of wine for the $$$. - Jean From LongShadows Group: "Nine winemakers. Nine hats. The nine renowned winemakers of LongShadow's signature wines discover after each harvest that a percentage of their resulting barrels are more than they require to achieve that perfect balance in their final blends. These extra barrels now produce NINE HATS...wines of complexity and supple texture."
$18.86 any 12 bottles The best Gewurztraminer in North America? If not, show me what is! The Dowsett Family Gewurztraminer 09 has scents of carnation, white peach and lychee. The flavors are of peach and citrus, with a silky texture and a refreshing finish of fruit and minerals. Avalon's Wine of the Month for August 2010 $32.36 any 12, regular price $49.95 The Perfect Gift A showy, double bottle size Abbot's Table. A beautiful label on a large dark bottle, filled with a crowd pleasing wine at under $35. Perfect business thank you, a classy bottle to take to a party, and it makes a splash at special dinners.
Abbot's Table 2008 is the perfect example of a "smooth" wine. Velvety, lush, round flavors glide over your taste buds. The Zinfandel and Sangiovese provide the backbone and show in the lingering finish of sweets plums, raspberries and cherries. More than a third of the 08 Abbot's is Bordeaux varietals - the deep cassis and black cherry flavors are a perfect complement to the fresh, bright red fruits. There's a meaty complexity to the finish that adds even more character to an already outstanding value table wine.
